Gallerie UQO April 5 2019

Our last field trip was to the University of Quebec Gallery in Outaouais, on April 5, 2019, at 1:00 PM! The exhibition Re: Travailler Ensemble/ Re: Working Together is all about collaboration.

Thank you, Jessica Arseneau for hosting our group, providing us with information and taking part in our lively discussions!

The project itself is a collaborative initiative between the UQO gallery and Carleton University Art Gallery and is curated by Heather Anderson (CUAG) and Helene Leblanc (UQO). Some of you attended the symposium they organized a few weeks ago. The exhibition is on until April 28, but this is the last week for the current video-installations at UQO.

Presented at UQO are the artists Emilie Monnet, Ahmet Ogut and Redmond Entwistle. Emilie Monnet contributes an audio piece, Ninoswahadon Sibi (I follow the river), on her relationship to the Kichi Sibi (Ottawa River) and how the river connects her to her Algonquin ancestors. There is a podcast of her work available, which will give us a chance to listen to it another time, as we will be short of time this Friday afternoon.

We plan to watch the videos and stay for a discussion among ourselves after. There are two videos:
1.Ahmet Ogut, Happy Together, Collaborators Collaborating. The hour-long video consists of interviews with ten collaborators (all non-artists) with the artist Ahmet Ogut, in ten different projects. This “is an ambitious project that casts a critical look at the status and value of work in the production of art and, by extension, the ethical and relational implications of the role of the artist and their work in the world.”(catalogue).
2.Redmond Entwistle, Walk-Through, (18 mins). The video explores the site, design, and philosophy of Michael Asher’s Post-Studio course at CalArts in L.A.. if you read Sarah Ashton’s  Seven Days in the Artworld you may remember Ashton’s famous Post-Studio Crit Classes that could go on for twelve hours or more.

A super crit! It is in this spirit we’ll have our discussion! No, don’t worry: the gallery closes at 5 PM. and we are aiming to start at 1 PM and leave at 4 PM. You’ll find the address below. We may have some spaces in Rene’s Artvan, if you’re interested. Other carpools may be arranged as well, so don’t let transportation hold you back.

Please let me know if you are interested so the gallery can be ready for us. Staff will provide some context for the videos and the exhibition, and get us some chairs!

RSVP, ASAP, Thanks!

Petra and Rene
